Nitzan is currently living in Zurich, Switzerland offering English language classes. Over the past seven years she has been teaching English, Social Studies and Special Education at the high school level. She has also held the position of department chair of the Social Studies department at her school for four years.
Her passion as a teacher has been to develop project based curriculum that enables high school students to explore the world through time and place. Nitzan's courses and units often have a thematic focus that helps guide student inquiry. She have also participated in a number of seminars over the years to help her further develop her knowledge and curriculum building abilities.
Nitzan grew up in New Jersey and earned her Bachelors in Religion and a Certificate in Jewish and Middle East studies at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. After being accepted into the New York Teaching Fellows Program, Nitzan taught full time in Brooklyn, while earning a dual Masters in Special and General Education at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. Nitzan just came back from living and studying in Oaxaca, Mexico for over a month. She is currently living abroad in Switzerland, taking advantage of the countries centrality in Europe to explore and learn more about the continent's cultures and histories. She will be returning to NYC in the spring.
Nitzan is author of The Budding Teacher, as is her namesake ("Nitzan" means bud in Hebrew). She started the blog to help organize curricular resources, previously developed and in current production, so that they can be more easily shared with teachers and students alike.
